Over the years, Halloween has grown from just being one day at the end of the month to being a holiday worthy of a month long celebration. As soon as the first leaf falls from a tree, the jack-o-lanterns are in the window. People spend all year working on the best Halloween costumes, referencing favorite cartoon characters, superheroes, and pop culture icons. It’s a wonderful time to be as creative as possible for everyone to see.
But the creativity doesn’t just stop with the costumes and decorations.
Halloween also brings out the best in spooky, Halloween-themed treats. From Bat Brownies to Pretzel Pumpkins, there’s no denying how creative people truly become with a little haunted inspiration. While bats and pumpkins are clearly at the forefront of people’s minds when they think of Halloween, there’s another Halloween symbol that doesn’t get the recognition it deserves: candy corn.
With a history spanning a little over 130 years, candy corn has become one of the most recognizable candies associated with Halloween. The combination of its kernel shape, white/orange/yellow coloring, and mellow cream flavor makes candy corn a truly one-of-a-kind candy.
In honor of candy corn, the unsung hero of Halloween, Copper Chef shares with you an easy Halloween recipe that you can make in your copper pot for any creepy crawly occasion.
This Candy Corn Crepe Cake recipe is fun, easy, and makes 8 servings. Put on your favorite Halloween music and get started!
What You’ll Need
• 0.25 cups sugar
• ½ stick of butter
• 1 cup of candy corn
• 1 US liquid quart heavy whipping cream
• 1 yellow food coloring
• 1 orange food coloring
• 1.5 cup confectioners’ sugar
• 2 tsp. butterscotch flavoring
• 2 tsp. salt
• 2.5 cups whole milk
• 3 cups all-purpose flour
• 6 eggs
To prepare the dessert, combine your milk, eggs, salt, and sugar in a blender for 15 seconds for a nice but quick blend. Add your flour and pulse the mixture to combine it thoroughly. Cautiously drizzle your melted butter into your mixture while the blender is still mixing. Blend your ingredients for a full minute.
Place your nonstick pan over a medium-low heat and add enough of your batter to coat the bottom of the copper pan. You can swirl the batter to help with evenly distributing it across the pan. If you’re not used to cooking crepes, this can be the tricky part. Cook until the top of the crepe begins to set, roughly 2-3 minutes. Then, similar to a pancake, carefully flip the crepe and cook it for an additional 30 seconds. Remove the crepe to a cooling rack and repeat until the batter is used up. Allow for all of your crepes to cool thoroughly.
While you wait for your crepes to cool, make your whipped cream. In a large bowl, combine your whipping cream, sugar, and butterscotch flavoring. With hand mixer or whisk, whip the cream until it becomes to form into whipped cream. Evenly divide your whipped cream into 3 bowls. In one bowl add yellow coloring and in other add the orange coloring. Gently fold the colors into the cream until the batters become yellow and orange respectively. You should have 3 bowls of whipped cream, yellow, orange, and white, just like the layers of candy corn.
Now comes the fun part, the construction! To build your candy corn crepe cake, place a crepe layer on a serving dish. Spread a quarter-inch layer of the yellow whipped cream. Repeat two more times with the yellow whipped cream to create 3 layers of yellow. Repeat the same process for the orange and white whipped cream. Your end result should be 3 yellow layers at the bottom, 3 orange layers in the middle, and three white layers at the top.
Feel free to top with more whipped cream and actual candy corn if desired.
