Choose Simple Recipes with Easy-to-Find Ingredients

Counting out six eggs is a great exercise for the younger ones. Older children can measure some of the other ingredients like vanilla extract or brown sugar with measuring spoons and measuring cups.
Depending on the ages of your children, supervised egg whisking can be a great way to teach your child simple cooking skills while helping them to feel involved. Traditional Homemade French Toast

6 large eggs
½ cup heavy cream
1 tsp. vanilla extract
¼ cup brown sugar
1 tbsp. maple syrup
½ tsp. salt
1 loaf challah or other large, crusty bread
powdered sugar, for serving
your favorite berries, for serving
- Preheat griddle over medium heat.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, cream, vanilla, brown sugar, maple syrup and salt.
- Dip the bread in the egg batter and place on the griddle.
- Cook until golden brown, on each side, about 3 minutes per side.
- Serve with a dusting of powdered sugar and fresh berries or toppings of your choice.
